Journey Home

 Tuesday 22 September

We left quite early and had breakfast in Wellington. We had sussed out possibilities on our visit yesterday. It was on our way and easier than finding somewhere suitable in the sprawl of Dubbo.

We detoured slightly to visit Lake Burrendong. The Macquarie River and Cudgegong River have been dammed to create this very large lake. A popular holiday spot as well as providing much needed water to farming communities in the Macquarie Valley.

It was then a leisurely drive back to Bathurst where we stopped for lunch.

Driving in an easterly direction, back through Lithgow, situated at the foot of the western side of the Blue Mountains, it was clearer to see how close last summer's fires came to the town. Driving this route takes you through some of the worst hit areas close to Sydney. There are good signs of recovery though.

We completed our journey, arriving home mid afternoon. We completed nearly 3000km. What a wonderful short trip this has been. Of course to do it the way we did means you need to enjoy driving. We are very lucky we do enjoy this type of touring.
